Building Spiritual Defenses for your Family against the Enemy’s Attacks (Pt 2)

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." — Proverbs 18:10

As we said in our previous article , "Many times when we think of a stronghold a negative image flood our thoughts. We imagine Satan is impacting someone's life with vices such as fear, unbelief, anger, deception, or bitterness.

But, as God’s children we are instructed to establish godly strongholds—spiritual foundation pillars built upon His Love, His Word, His presence. Through worship, prayer, faith and obedience.

This stronghold is refuge when we are facing temptation, trials, or should the enemy's attacks increase. It will protect and enable us to have victory in spiritual battles. Our adversary's goal is constant: ....... he comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy..." — John 10:10

The enemy is not waiting until tomorrow to attack. Right now he seeks to weaken our prayer life, distract us from God's Word, diminish worship, compromise our obedience, destroy faith, and isolate us from godly fellowship. So, we must intentionally erect a formidable spiritual stronghold.

Knowing this, God has provided spiritual pillars for us to build a fortress that Satan cannot overcome.

The Name of the Lord
The Presence of the Lord
The Word of God
Confidence in God’s Love
Prayer
Worship
Obedience
Faith
Fellowship

The time to build is not when the storm arrives; the time to build is now.

Build a Stronghold on the Confidence we have in God's Love

God declared His love for us His children to give us the assurance we need in our times of testing, trials and temptations.

1 John 3:1 NLT

[1] See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.

One of the best examples I can think of is Job. Many criticize his pride of speech in his self motivated dialogues , however, we cannot overlook the confidence he had in God's love for him. Even in suffering he declared:

"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him." — Job 13:15 Job's relationship with God survived because it was rooted in a confident trusting God's love rather than his circumstances.

When we know the Father's heart of love towards us- As declared in Jeremiah 31:3

Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. (NLT) We can rest assured that He will show up when we invite Him into our situations that the enemy orchestrated.

The Apostle Paul's teaching in Romans chapter 8. underscores the TRUTH that God's love is one of our strongest pillars for our stronghold -

" Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?

(As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans.8.35-39.NLT

Our only issue is believing and receiving it , and letting the Devil know that we know we are loved by the victorious God.

Build a Stronghold of Prayer

Daniel lived in a hostile environment where serving God could cost him his life. When the law was passed forbidding prayer, Daniel held his ground.

"He kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed..." — Daniel 6:10

Prayer was Daniel's stronghold and must be ours today as hostile religious groups are raging wars against Christianity.

Remember the enemy is as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devor. But, The lions could not destroy Daniel because his communion with God was stronger than the threat against him.

Let's compare the strongholds

Satan strives on :-

Fear
Intimidation
Spiritual compromise
Isolation

Some of God’s strategies are:-

His Love
His Word
Prayer
Faithfulness
Divine protection

The Daniel's prayer life developed before trials sustained him during them.

Build a Stronghold of Worship

True worship to the Lord God Almighty the only God who is worthy of it - incomparable benefits.

Acts 16:22-26

After being beaten and imprisoned, Paul and Silas began praying and singing praises unto God.

The prison represented Satan's attempt to:

Silence them

Discourage them

Stop the Gospel

Instead of complaining, they worshiped.

Suddenly:

The earth shook.

Chains broke.

Doors opened.

Worship became a spiritual stronghold that the enemy could not overcome.Worship shifts our focus from our problems to God's power.

When believers worship during difficult seasons, Satan loses one of his greatest weapons—discouragement.

"Yet will I rejoice in the LORD..." — Habakkuk 3:18

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." — James 4:7

As you build godly strongholds, you will not merely survive the enemy's attacks—you will victoriously overcome them. The devil cannot destroy a believer who consistently abides in Christ.

Psalms 91:1-3 NLT

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
