Building Spiritual Defenses for your Family against the Enemy’s Attacks (Pt 3)

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." — Proverbs 18:10

As we said in our previous article , "We must erect a Godly stronghold as our place of defense against an unrelenting foe - the devil. This stronghold must have deep rooted foundation pillars. The pillars includes but not limied to our faith in God's love, His Word of truth - the Bible, His presence, worshiping Him, praying to Him, having faith in Him and obeying Him.

A stronghold that is correctly built and maintained is our refuge/ hiding place when the enemy's attacks increase or when we are tempted and tried because of our faith in God.

Such a stronghold will guarantee us victory in God. The enemy's tactics of trying to kill our dreams, destinies or the physical us is no match for our divinely design4ed stronghold.

He won't be victorious in stealing our peace, joy or health when we are anchored in God's word.

Knowing how much we to be protected, God has provided spiritual pillars for us to build a fortress that Satan cannot overcome.

The pillars we have been looking at are.:

The Name of the Lord

The Presence of the Lord

The Word of God

Confidence in God’s Love

Prayer

Worship

Obedience

Faith

Fellowship

Again, the time to build is not when the storm arrives; the time to build is now.

We will complete this blog with our last three pillars of - Obedience, Faith and Fellowship.

Build a Stronghold of Obedience

Obedience to God is not only about us abiding by a set of religious rules, its actually our means to be positoned to be protected and lead by God. This obedience will establish a spiritual covering over our lives because it keeps us aligned with His will and under His direction.

Deuteronomy 28:1–2 connects our loving obedience to receiving God's blessing and declares that those who diligently obey His voice will experience His favor.

Our obedience is an outward demonstration of love for God that shuts doors in our lives that presents Satan from gaining acces to our lives. In John 14:15 Jesus made it clear , “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Joseph gives us an impactful example of obedience as protection. When he was being tempted by Potiphar's wife to enter into sexual immorality. He rejected her saying, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). Obedience to God was his priority. Satan sought to attack his relationship with God and distroy his destiny.

Although this same obedience initially led Joseph into a difficult season, God presence protected him and ultimately promoted him.

Sometimes obedience may temporarily cost us but disobedience will cost us a lot more

Obedience to God will also gives us authority to resist the enemy. James 4:7 tells us to “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Notice that submission to God comes before resistance to Satan. We cannot effectively resist the enemy while walking contrary to God's word. When we surrender our will to God, while standing on His Word, in obedience, we establish a spiritual pillar that makes it difficult for the enemy to gain ground.

Therefore, every act of obedience becomes another pillar in our spiritual fortress that—strengthens our relationship with God and help us stand victoriously against the schemes of the enemy.

Build a Stronghold of Faith

Our faith in God becomes a powerful pillar of protection because it anchors our hearts in what God has said rather than what the enemy wants us to believe.

Satan often attacks through fear, doubt, confusion, and discouragement, attempting to make us question God's character and promises.

But, Ephesians 6:16 tells us to take up “the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”  Faith does not mean that we will not experience fear; it means that we refuse to allow fear to become greater than our confidence in God.

When we believe that God is faithful, present, and able to fulfill His promises, the enemy's accusations and lies lose their power.

David demonstrated this kind of faith when he faced Goliath. While the Israelite army focused on the giant's size and strength, David focused on the greatness of his God. As he declared, “The battle is the LORD'S” (1 Samuel 17:47).

His confidence was not in his own ability but, in God's faithfulness. His previous experiences with God had prepared him for this moment. He experenced God's protection when facing the lion and the bear, so he confidently trusted God to deliver him from Goliath. Faith remembers what God has already done and uses those testimonies as our foundation for when the enemy presents an overwhelming situation. We can unreservedly declare , .“God is greater than what stands before me.”

Faith also protects our relationship with God by teaching us to remain steadfast when circumstances contradict His promises.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” The enemy wants us to judge God's goodness by our circumstances, but faith chooses to trust God even when we cannot see the outcome.

1 John 5:4 declares, “This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” 

Hence, faith becomes a foundational pillar in our spiritual stronghold. We strengthen that pillar every time:

• We stand and declare God's Word,

• Pray when we cannot see the answer,

• Worship when circumstances are difficult,

• Continue believing while the enemy is shouting give up.

Although, the enemy may show up in the circumstances, when we stand firm in faith, we can rest assured that God will hold us steady through it.

Build a Stronghold of Fellowship

Fellowship with other believers is a powerful pillar of protection because it was never God's plan for us to walk alone on our Christian journey .

Satan is fully aware that isolation can make a believer more vulnerable to discouragement, spiritual weakness, temptation and deception. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us that “two are better than one,” because when one falls, the other can help them up.

In Acts 2:42  the believers “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” The Early church clearly understood the principle of fellowship and it's benefits.

They were strengthened by their commitment to walk together. Godly fellowship does create the environment where believers can encourage each other, pray for one another, and strengthen each other to remain faithful.

The enemy often attempts to separate us from people who can strengthen our faith.

After experiencing a great victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah the became discouraged and isolated himself, eventually saying, “I, even I only, am left” (1 Kings 19:10).

This reminds us that isolation can magnify our problems, but godly fellowship can help restore our perspective. God ministered to Elijah and eventually connected him with Elisha, who would walk alongside him and continue the prophetic assignment. We need people who will pray with us, speak truth to us, encourage us when we are weary, and lovingly correct us when we begin drifting away from God.

Fellowship becomes a spiritual stronghold when we intentionally surround ourselves with people who are committed to Christ and who will help us remain anchored in Him.

Hebrews 10:24–25 instructs believers to consider how to encourage one another toward love and good works and not to forsake assembling together.

Therefore, we must choose our spiritual community wisely. Stay connected to believers who will pray with you, worship with you, challenge you, and remind you of God's Word when you become discouraged. 

When we are united, the enemy has a much harder time finding an isolated place to attack. Fellowship is not merely companionship—it is part of God's strategy to help us stand, remain strong, and overcome.

Victory is not found in fighting for God's presence; it is found in living from God's presence. Build your stronghold in Christ today, stand firm in His Word, and watch every plan of the enemy fall before the power of the living God. Amen.

The devil cannot destroy a believer who consistently abides in Christ.

Final Thoughts from dabaR

As you build these godly strongholds, you will not merely survive the enemy's attacks—you will overcome them.

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony..." — Revelation 12:11

As I said before we must , make a deliberate decision to restablish or strengthen the areas in our spiritual walls are damaged. Let's return to daily prayer, reading the Word, actively worship and live from a place of wholehearted obedience.
