Truthfully speaking, the greatest gift we can ever give our children is not a perfect life—but rather it's leading them into a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior- Jesus Christ.

As parents, we spend so much of our lives making sure our children have everything they need. We work hard to provide a safe home, a good education, healthy meals, and opportunities for a bright future. Those things matter, but there's one gift that surpasses them all—a genuine relationship with God.

The truth is, our children will one day outgrow our protection. They will face choices we can't make for them, challenges we can't shield them from, and moments when our advice won't be enough. In those moments, they will need something far greater than our wisdom. They will need to know the voice of their Heavenly Father for themselves.

The encouraging news is that helping our children grow closer to God doesn't require us to be a perfect parent. It simply requires a willing heart, consistent faith, and a home where God's presence is welcomed every day. Here are three simple ways we can help our children develop a relationship with God that will stand the test of time.

1. Let our Children See our Faith in Action

Children learn far more from what they see than from what they hear.

We can remind our child to pray every night, but if they never see us pray, those words may never take root. We can tell them to trust God, but when they see us turn to Him during our difficult times they begin to understand what trust truly looks like.

Some of the most meaningful spiritual lessons happen in ordinary moments. When our children hear us giving God thanks for His blessings. They realize that we are acknowledging Him as our source. We must allow them to see us open our Bibles as we seek God's direction—not because it's simply part of a church routine.

When we make a mistake, we must never be afraid to apologize and ask for forgiveness. These God centered lifestyle will teach them humility, grace, and dependence on God in ways that no sermon ever will.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

"Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ."— 1 Corinthians 11:1

Our children don't need parents who pretend to have it all together. They need parents who genuinely love Jesus and are true examples of Him as we grow in Him daily.

Food for Thought:

Our lives may be the first Bible our children ever read. Let it be the source of divine truth.

2. Create a Home where Faith in God is pre-emenient

Faith was never meant to be something we experience only on Sunday mornings or during church gatherings. God desires to be an integral part of our everyday conversations, decisions, celebrations, and even our struggles so, our faith in Him is has to be the foundation our relationship with Him.

Imagine the difference it makes when your children grow up in a home where prayer is as natural as eating dinner, where worship music fills the atmosphere, where Scripture is spoken with love, and where family members encourage one another with God's promises.

Creating a Christ-centered home doesn't mean every family devotion will be perfect. Some evenings will be interrupted by homework, busy schedules, or tired parents. That's okay. What matters most is consistency, not perfection.

Moses reminded God's people:

"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road..." — Deuteronomy 6:6–7

Sometimes the most engaging biblical truth is imparted in conversations while driving our children to school, cooking dinner together, or taking an evening walk. Those everyday moments often become the ones that impact our children the most.

Food for Thought:

Children flourish spiritually and grow in intimacy with God when they have a home where God's love is experienced —and is not just Christian cliché.

3. Guide our Children to Develop Their Own Friendship with God

As much as we want to protect our children, there comes a time when our love for them and faith in God cannot carry them anymore. They will need their own relationship with Jesus.

I know I have said this in almost every article I have written , But, we must teach them that prayer is simply talking with their Heavenly Father. And encourage them to freely ask questions about the Bible. Our role is to help them understand that God still speaks through His Word and by His Holy Spirit. We must encourage and celebrate when they recognize God's answers to prayer, no matter how small they may seem.

Jesus revealed His heart for children in His desire to commune with them:

"Let the little children come to me...for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."— Matthew 19:14

One simple question may open the door to meaningful conversations, such as.:

"What do you think God is teaching you today?"

Their answers may surprise us. More importantly, they'll begin learning that God wants to speak directly to them—not only through us their parents.

We must give them opportunities to pray in their own words. We can encourage them to keep a simple prayer journal or write down the ways God answers their prayers. These small habits can develop in lifelong anchors for faith.

Food for Thought:

Our goal isn't to raise children who simply know about God - But those who know Him personally.

A Final Thought from DabaR™

Never forget- Parenting is one of the greatest ministries God has entrusted to us. There will be days when we might wonder if your prayers are making a difference, if the Bible stories we share are being remembered, or if our efforts will actually bear fruit.

Take heart beloved of God.

  • Every prayer you whisper over your child...

  • Every Scripture you share...

  • Every act of love, grace, and forgiveness...

  • Every moment you point them toward Jesus...

God sees it all.

Seeds of Biblical truth often grow quietly beneath the surface long before we ever see the harvest. So, let's keep planting, praying. and trusting the Lord to do what only He can do. Rest assured , the promise of Proverbs still encourages parents today:

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."— Proverbs 22:6

Today, choose let's choose ones simple way to intentionally help our children draw closer to God. Honestly, we may never fully realize the eternal impact of these small act of obedience—but heaven will.

Prayer for Parents

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us the gift of our children. Help us to be faithful examples of Your love, grace, and truth. Give us wisdom to lead them gently toward You and guide them as we live out our faith with authenticity.

Help us to make our homes places where Your presence is welcomed and entertained. Where Your Word is treasured, and Your love is experienced daily. Draw our children into a personal relationship with You Jesus that will grow stronger daily

In Jesus' name, we pray.

Amen.
